Mrs Barnes

I am Deb Barnes, and I am proud to be the principal at Kutztown Elementary School. I have served the Kutztown community in this capacity since 2014. Prior to coming to Kutztown, I was a teacher (5 years) and administrator (7 years) in the Allentown School District. I started my career in Philadelphia, with the United Cerebral Palsy Association and at a cooperative, parent-owned nursery school.

I earned my master's degree in educational leadership from Lehigh University and my bachelor's degree in elementary education from Shippensburg University.  After graduating from Shippensburg, I served in the United States Peace Corps as a Rural Child Health Volunteer in Thailand.

I currently live with my husband, Arlian, and dog, Jovie, in Upper Saucon Township. I have a daughter and granddaughter who live in Tennessee. In my spare time, I enjoy baking, reading, swimming, and being outdoors. 

I believe in developing children as readers, thinkers, and compassionate citizens. During my tenure at KES, I have focused on building community and providing students with the support necessary to be successful.
